from LATVIA side

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2, 3, 4 June we – small group of 2 teachers – Vija and Tanja and 6 brave students done 2 days long hiking along North Latvia Seaside.
VITRUPE – SALACGRIVA
During hiking we explore nature, beautiful landscapes and enjoy great time to be together
Weather was ideally – not cold and not hot. Nights could be warmer – but – was OK
Water for swimming was a bit too cold – but we all swimm anyway
The fresh feeling is more worth than afraid from coldness
What was surprising – all 3 days we see no ONE HUMAN on the Seaside !
We see some people only on camping site seaside, and some people on Salacgriva seaside …
This region where we hike is locate in North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve – areas of beautiful primeval and traditional landscape: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Vidzeme_Biosphere_Reserve
Specially interesting here is grassy Seaside – named in latvian “randu” grassland (actualy “randu” is not latvian word, it is livu word and translated as “seaside”. Livi is nationality, that live here before Latvians – Latvians live here only 4000 years. Today in all the World survive only about 200 livi … Lot of places in Latvia are named on livi language.) Randu grassland are special – they plants can survive in salty Sea wather. Here can be found in 37 Latvian and European countries the red books recorded plant species. Randu grassland is famous as bird migration and nesting area. Where we was – on South from Salacgriva randu grassland only begin. The greatest randu grassland “jungle” part is situated on North from Salacgriva.
What about hiking say Liene and Lauma ?
Liene Melkerte :
Our hike Vitrupe-Salavgrīva was GRATE! I loved it and really enjoy it! Big, big thanks to our teachers- Vija and Tanja.:)
We had small group but we walked about 16 km along the sea shore, looking at a beautiful landscape, enjoying the first breath of summer-sun warm touch on our skin and sea fresh water! Impressions from this camp is wonderfull!
When I reached the destination of the hike, I had this strange feeling of happiness, as a little of my souls dreams would be filled. It make me also think, that some people are still thinking, what is the point to wear heavy bag on their shoulder and with foot go in a long way, it is so exhausting and useless! But I believe that we have to try everything in our lives, including hiking and when I put my heavy bag on my shoulders, I was thinking about all the nice things around me. In this hike around me were nice people, beautiful landscape and a wonderful weather. All this together make me forgot about my heavy bag on my shoulders and just go ahead along the sea shore and also to overcome the minor difficulties of the road, but with a smile on our face and confidence, we can all together go to any of these nice hikes because it is an unforgettable experience for those who know how to enjoy them!
Lauma Kaudzite:
WoW! This trek was so interesting! I absolutely enjoyed it! But, it also was very hard – physically . We had to go so far, and only on our feet! It wouldn’t be anything, if we didn’t have those heavy bags! Me and my friend Liene had relatively small bags. I can’t understand how my teacher Tanja could hold her bag – it was almost bigger than she is! :O But anyways it was greate! All the time we went along the sea (except that times we went through the woods) – and it was so beautiful. In the evening we slept near small river – Svētupe, in tents. And in tent we had so much fun! Teacher Vija made special soup, and it was so nice! Big thanks to her.
I think we all were very friendly and that was fantastic. O, and the sunset, it was so beautiful and great! Off course Liene and I swam! It was freezing, but we felt good! I am so glad that I went in this trip. I was real trek!
