GOOD NEWS from LATVIA

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

I am HAPPY share with you GOOD NEWS from LATVIA !

Just recently Latvia government rejected the idea about digging Latvia biggest river Daugava to connect the Baltic Sea to the Black and Caspian Seas and make Daugava river navigable for trade ships !

Project could cost 90 milliard Euro.

If that project would have been accepted , we would have lost one of Latvia biggest and most beautiful river.
Instead of a river full of life and wind, with lots of fish and clean Daugava (as clean as it is possible todays), here could have flown a straight dirty canal …
For Baltic, Caspian, Black and Mediteranean Seas, it could have had an unpredictable impact on flora and fauna mixing.

The ones who had that idea: union “Jaunais Zīda ceļš” who promised for Latvia society lot of money from trade on Daugava …

But NO ! Latvian people are not ready to sell their beautiful NATURE ! and History !
People organised unions and gave their signatures against that idea. Children from all Latvia made drawings about how they would like to see our river – blue, clean, alive, … happy !
We too made drawings.

We together with other Latvian children have sent our drawings to Jekabpils, city on Daugava bank. There last Saturday there was a conference where scientists, writers, local government came together to talk about Daugava and how to protect it ….
Children’s drawings were really powerful ! I  have seen how people caught power and good energy from them :-)
At that moment we were happy, because one day before at a conference, Latvian government announced they were giving up the idea about digging Daugava river.

Anyway, we must never forget about it …
Some people ‘s greed is ENDLESS …

Welcome to look at my students’ drawings.

We ,each of us, are not rich and each of us is not powerful…
but when we are ALL TOGETHER – we have GREAT POWER ! :-)

ARDIS (7 years old): Letter to the Daugava diggers. You don’t need money, because you have already lot of money. You have definitely already enough money. Don’t digg.

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

There is a little seal in our laboratory.

Seal monachous-monachous

is in danger in the Mediterranean Sea.

Every year before the school year finishes,

we sit around it and ask…

What did the small seal eat?

What is your answer?

Why did the little seal eat all these

and now it has problem and it is in danger?

What is your answer?

Have the small seal other problems?

Do you know about its problems?

We really wait for your answers…

This is our “Dolphin”

It is about one month we work on it,

when we have free time.

You can see a dolphin like this,

when you are travelling in Aegean Sea in Greece.

Thats why we decided to make one.

As you can see it is a mix of collage and painting.

Collage was made for all our team.

The painting of dolphin is by Electra.

We enjoy its making very much!

We hope you like it…

And we wish you to see one in your trips!
